Padstow is the jewel in the crown of the most beautiful county in Britain - a county steeped in history. Cornwall is separate, and different. The Tamar bridge is the boundary into a COUNTRY rather than a county; with its own language, flag and national anthem. Cornwall has more saints and place names for those saints than anywhere else in Britain. There are ruins of pre-Roman tin mines. There are pre-Christian holy wells and springs which are still tended and revered in secret in some parts, and there are pre-historic standing stones, stone circles and ancient settlements. All this and much more give the strong sense of magic and witchery that still dominates the wonderful country called Cornwall. |
